Style Icon: Dita Von Teese

I must confess, I have a total girl crush on Dita Von Teese. Therefore, I just had to write a post about her.

I love her glamorous and retro old Hollywood style. The "Queen of Burlesque" always looks ladylike, but in a cheekily sexy way that few celebrities these days can pull off. (She even makes a Playboy cover look classy!) She rocks a unique style and refuses to conform to trends, instead choosing to stay true to her personal fashion tastes. Even cooler, she doesn't even have a stylist- she picks all her red carpet outfits out herself and her burlesque costumes are all haute-couture. Which probably shouldn't come as a surprise as she is a trained costume designer and styled many period films before she started performing burlesque. Plus, as a fellow extremely-fair-skinned-chick I love her complete defiance of fake tan!

Since I originally trained to be a make-up artist, I'm somewhat obsessed with Dita's beauty style too. So I thought in a few days I would do a little post/tutorial on how to get Dita's gorgeously flawless make-up look. Until then, enjoy the following gallery showcasing some of her retro-glam style. Who's That Chick?

A new day, a new blog and it's first ever post. Yay!

I'm a huge fan of colour (Pantone, I love you) and I love seeing how colour can be used in so many different ways by illustrators, typographers and crafters. My latest colour crush is Rihanna's video for her new song with David Guetta, Who's That Chick?
Rihanna from the Day video...
I love everything about the video. It's all a big mix of themes: sort of like neon, harlequin, space age and the 80's combined (and on acid.)
and the Night video. Photo courtesy of RihannaDaily.com

To make it even cooler, there are actually two videos for the song. (And yes, it was done for a Doritos promotion, but hey, it's still awesome! Just like the Doritos cheese supreme chip flavour.) The colourful one is called the "day" video and the "night" video is like its total opposite. Whereas the day one is all cute and cuddly, the night one is like its goth/ emo cousin with possible emotional problems. I love the contrast between the two, even though the day one is definitely my favourite. Her make-up and outfit are seriously amazing and outrageously adorable, not to mention the sweet set design and the overall fun flavour of the video.
