Excuse Me: The Wonderful World of Sarcasm in Daria

I made a truly wonderful discovery at JB HiFi the other week when I saw that the complete series of Daria had finally been released on DVD in Australia! Daria is one of my all time favourite shows due to the title character's wit, sarcasm and spot-on insight into society's foibles.

For those of you who might have missed it the first time 'round, the animated series revolves around the title character of Daria and her life in an American high school. The series is a fantastic satire of modern life and society and anyone who has ever rebelled against the norm will find the ultimate role model in social misfit Daria Morgandorffer and her equally unconventional friend Jane Lane. The series ran for five wonderful sarcasm-laden seasons before it sadly ended in 2002.
It's hard to believe a TV series of such amazingly accurate, satiric insight into the ridiculousness of the vapid, consumer and celebrity obsessed culture of life today came from MTV, the harbingers of idiotic and godawful reality series such as The Jersey Shore and The Hills. Excuse me MTV, but I don't think Daria would approve of your current programmes at all.

Here's a taste of Daria's famous sarcastic quotes:
